Did you know that with the official release of FFXIV Dawntrail on July 2nd, you’ll still have access to some really nice changes in the game even if you don’t own the in-app expansion?

Here I’ll highlight some changes I know from the preliminary patch notes that affect all players, including base gamers. If you’re preparing to jump into the new expansion, don’t miss this guide. Let’s get started!

Before Entering

Before we get started, I want to remind you that these patch notes are available on the official FFXIV website. The patch notes will let you know which items require which paid expansions to unlock. For example, if you only own Stormblood, any 2.x items will work for you, but as soon as you sign up for Shadowbringers, you’ll also get access to 5.x content, and so on.

But here I’m going to focus on the content that all players have been able to access since the official release of the expansion on July 2nd.

Quest Changes

The first item we saw was the quest they added to give everyone a free Fantasia to go along with the graphical upgrade. This will show you where you can pick up the quest, the name of the quest giver, and the requirements. For example, if you are class level 1 or higher, and you complete the quest “Scions of the Seventh Dawn”, which is about 30 quests in ARR MSQ series.

You can temporarily hide the display of nearby player characters when interacting with quest-related NPCs or objects. It will be in your character configuration menu under General and “Quest Progression Settings”.

You can also choose to automatically advance on-screen text dialogue during voiced conversations. And, quests where you type in “say” chat will be a little more lenient with your input. Think of some quests that had punctuation or uppercase letters before, which looked like lower case letters.

Some Former Beast-Tribe Quests will now be Allied Society Quests in an attempt to improve relations with the more refined members of the aforementioned groups.

Also, some quest battles can no longer be played with limited jobs. For example, Blue Mage is OP, and Beastmaster is even more so. They won’t let you play with them on MSQ.

Quality Of Life Changes

The studio has added new craftable items for any FC leader, as well as new areas and items for Airship/Submersible programme, and new levels for Submersible.

They have also changed the settlement classifications for sparsely populated worlds. You can now kick people out of your house and lawn (10 days).

There will be new prizes in Gold Saucer, including new Furniture, Orchestrion Rolls, Aquarium Fish, and Seeds! Card numbers have been added to the item descriptions of all Triple Triad cards.

If you already own Shadowbringers, you can also play as a female Hrothgar, with a new hairstyle.

The layout of Blue Magic Spellbook has been adjusted, and the execution of Monk and DRG Limit Break animations has changed. Buffs may disappear when changing areas, and each job below your highest level now gives a 100% Armoury Bonus until level 90. Then 50% from levels 90 to 99.

New World and Preferred World character rewards now apply to all jobs at level 89 or below. You can pick up Viper and Pictomancer weapons from Deep Dungeon Vendors (like PotD vendor).

Duty Finder has been reorganized. Level 50/60/70/80 Roulette is now High-level Dungeon Roulette. You can now leave mid-fight if you enter out of sync.

New Items

New items in Wolves’ Den for Trophy Crystals and Wolf Marks! New PVP Serieses Face wear becomes a slot. Some fashion accessories will become face slot items, so if they are missing from your fashion accessories list, make sure to pick them up from Calamity Salvagers in your starting city. They will give you an equippable item of equivalent.

Fantasia and Retainer Fantasia now looks different. Dyes have also changed a lot, you can add 2 colors to many pieces of gear, and more colors will be added in additional patches. As long as you have enough FFXIV Gil, you can change the appearance of your gear to any amount you want!

Men and Male Viera can now wear princess dresses. And new armor can be obtained in exchange for Silver Chocobo Feather.

Allied Society now has some new items. Survival and Engineering manuals now tell you when you need to read them again. Crafters’ and Gatherers’ Scrips have changed color. Spiritbond when gathering will be based on the gear level of the gear instead of the item level. You also get extra Spiritbond when you catch a big fish. Desynth caps and stacks still work even if you accidentally click on a single item.

There are also new mounts, minions, and fashion accessories. After using Fantasia, you have 60 minutes of in-game time to re-edit your appearance.

Other Changes

The new and improved Blacklist has a bunch of new features. You can also mute people and filter messages with specific terms from the chat.

What’s more, Retainers can now be assigned adventures from the companion app! This is a big deal for people who actually pay for and use the app, as any additional features will make it work.

• Rating: 87
• Location: ST
• Post-progression rating version 3: 95

Ciro Immobile was previously part of EURO Attackers Evolution and can also be used in EURO Midfielders Evolution. While the boosts provided by the midfielder evolution are not suitable for strikers like him, there will be some improvements in certain statistics, such as passing stats, dribbling, and shooting, which will be very helpful for your team.

After EURO Midfielders Evolution is completed, you will have a striker who can always make a link-up play. In addition, if you also like the gameplay centered on controlling the ball, then Ciro Immobile will also be a good fit for you.

Raheem Sterling

• Rating: 87
• Location: LW
• Post-progression rating version 3: 95

Raheem Sterling is another good choice for you in EURO Midfielders Evolution. This English player had a very strong season with Chelsea. But because he was not one of the best performers in the league, he missed the opportunity to play for the national team, which also meant that the England national team also lost a very good winger.

After completing EURO Midfielders Evolution, this player’s speed and dribbling stats will reach 96. In addition, he also has a five-star weak foot, which can make your shots more controllable.

Karim Adeyemi

With the release of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Sorceries and magic have returned in force, and players have discovered that there are a ton of spells and staffs to use. Each staff has something that sets them apart, and each has a different purpose.

Some staffs enhance certain spells, while others have incredible scaling. For example, some staffs can cause bleed damage and scarlet rot effects on enemies. Choosing the right staff in the game can make your quest or combat much easier.

Glintstone Staff

Glintstone Staff is a great starting Prisoner staff, as it only requires regular smithing stones to upgrade this Elden Ring Items, and Intelligence is something you need to focus on.

While the Glintstone Staff doesn’t have any skills or associated buffs, it’s a great all-around choice for players who are just getting started with Prisoner in Elden Ring.

This magic root is used by Prisoner by default, but can also be picked up by Noble Sorcerer enemies in Caria Manor later in the game.

Astrologer’s Staff

Among the first class staffs, Astrologer’s Staff is arguably the best for players who want to build a pure magic build early on. Its Intelligence stat is higher than Glintstone Staff overall, and it improves more with each upgrade.

Glintstone Staff is more suitable for flexible builds, while Astrologer’s Staff is more suitable for full magic builds. If you’ve been looking for a handy staff, you can’t miss Astrologer’s Staff.

It can be used to maximize your efficiency for a large part of your introductory period, and its high Intelligence stat can make you feel accomplished when fighting against early monsters.

Demi-Human Queen’s Staff

This staff will probably be the first major upgrade for most sorcerers in Elden Ring. Demi-Human Queen’s Staff can be obtained by defeating a small boss in Demi-Human Forest Ruins.

However, it is not without its shortcomings. Its expansion is weak, so you can still use Astrologer’s Staff mentioned above in the early game. When your other attributes are a bit higher, you can use it to add a little magic to your build.

Crystal Staff

In Academy Crystal Cave, you can find the staff behind the fake wall in front of the boss’s door. If you still can’t see it, you can try to go a little further to the right room. Although it only provides a 10% increase in Crystalian Sorceries, this increase can often mean a completely different result - life or death?

Unlike Rotten Crystal Staff, the basic Crystal Staff will not cause any accumulation when used as a melee weapon. But it can’t help but look beautiful - the whole body looks like a sapphire. But it is not a beautiful waste at all, and it can make exploration easier for you with eight Strength and a staggering forty-eight Intelligence.

Gelmir Glintstone Staff

Like other aspects of Elden Ring, it allows players to build their own characters specifically to showcase their desired fighting style. Among high-level players, most focus on Faith and Intelligence.

For mages who want to replicate the high-level player path, Gelmir Glintstone Staff will be their most powerful weapon, as it increases the effectiveness of lava-centric spells by 15%.

To get it, you need money to go to Volcano Manor to find Man-Serpent Sorcerer, and you also need to fight it in the throne room. After succeeding, you will find Gelmir Glintstone Staff on the ground.

Staff Of Loss

Many Elden Ring players will consider what is more effective? Is it a powerful attack that the enemy can see and avoid? Or a smaller damage that is unpredictable?

Staff Of Loss can solve your second half of the problem, both casting spells that make the enemy unpredictable and creating a lot of damage. Elden Ring has two specific Invisibility Sorceries, namely Night Shard and Night Comet. So in a sense, Staff Of Loss is closely related to both spells.

Staff Of Loss can be found on a corpse located in Town of Sorcery, Sellia. This staff increases the effectiveness of both spells by 30%, but in the dual-wielding New Game+ build this can be increased to 60%!

Carian Glintstone Staff

In the game, staff wielders are often seen as more passive combatants, as they seem to only be willing to face enemies from a comfortable distance and are unwilling to engage in close combat. But Carian Glintstone Staff completely breaks tradition by adding 15% power to the Carian sword sorceries, allowing you to cast Void Blade on any enemy that stands in your way.

If you know Carian Study Hall’s Liurnia of Lakes, then finding Carian Glintstone Staff is very simple. It is on a corpse in the second elevator.

Carian Regal Scepter

For casual players who don’t want to specialize in a particular type of spell, but just want a staff that can do everything, Carian Regal Scepter is perfect for them. To get it, you need to first give Remembrance of Full Moon Queen to Enia in Roundtable Hold.

After you complete this quest, you need to go to Rennala at the top of Raya Lucaria Academy inside of the library to get this Elden Ring Item.

Carian Regal Scepter relies mainly on Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade, which means its attributes are also unique. So you have to be unique to use it - Intelligence must be 69 or higher.

Thiollier is a key NPC in Elden Ring, and he has an important questline that runs throughout Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Here, we’ll cover the entire Thiollier Questline and the many unique rewards that can be obtained along the way. Let’s get straight into it!

Finding Thiollier

The first thing we need to do is find Thiollier. From Gravesite Plain Sites of Grace, we’ll move northeast, across Ellac Greatbridge, and to Castle Front.

We can then move southeast along the main path, which will eventually branch off into a side path that will take us to Pillar Path Cross. We can find Thiollier nearby.

After speaking all of Thiollier’s dialogue, we’ll be able to obtain poison-related items from him.

Obtaining Thiollier’s Concoction

Next, we can head to Main Gate Cross, where we’re going to talk to another NPC, Moore. If we choose “Talk to Moore” option, he should give us Black Syrup Key Item.

Then, on the way back to Thiollier, we can choose “Give Black Syrup”, then “Ask about Black Syrup”, and finally “I’m weary of life”. This will give us Thiollier’s Concoction. Of course, we can also get more of this consumable from Thiollier for 30,000 Elden Ring Runes each. However, I only know of one legitimate use for it.

At some point during Dragon Communion Priestess Quest, before fighting Bayle, it is possible to give Thiollier’s Concoction to her in order to use her as Spirit Summons after defeating Bayle, instead of her Priestess Heart and Flowerstone Gavel weapon. Unfortunately, I haven’t tested this myself yet.

Talking To Needle Knight Leda

Anyway, to progress further on Thiollier’s quest, we need to approach Shadow Keep and talk to Thiollier. He should say that Miquella’s charm for him is gone, and that he is haunted by the memory of St. Trina.

If we want, we can do something completely optional. We can go to Highroad Cross Site of Grace and talk to Needle Knight Leda. She will ask for our help in finding those who betrayed Miquella. We should be able to advise Thiollier, but we don’t actually have to.

From my testing, doing so will not prevent us from completing Thiollier’s quest, but if we want to play it safe, we can just not make any suggestions or talk to her at all.

Instead, to advance Thiollier’s quest line, all we have to do is rest twice at Site of Grace. After doing that, we can talk to Thiollier again and he will tell us that he is heading south.

Get Southern Shore Map

Next, we need to head south to Cerulean Coast, which is located in Southern Shore region. Let’s move on to how to get the corresponding map for the region.

We will start at Castle Front Site of Grace and move southeast, this time along the east side of the main road. Behind a few Soldiers of Messmer, there is a series of steep but climbable descents that lead to Ellac River.

Once down the hill, we can enter a cave system to the south, near an enormous pink Miranda Flower. We will then head southwest through the caves, free to explore along the way.

We can pick up a Revered Spirit Ash before discovering Ellac River Cave Site of Grace. From there, we will continue south through the cave system.

Note that there are several platforming sections here that need to be handled with caution to avoid death from fall damage. Another enormous threat is the lines of Gravebirds along the way.

Despite the dangers, we should eventually reach Ellac River Downstream Site of Grace. From here, it’s a little further south to exit this cave.

That being said, we still need to continue moving south, passing a few Lightning Sheep and a Furnace Golem. We can then turn west and walk through a forest to reach Cerulean Coast. We still need to continue moving south to find a map of this area.

Be careful of Ghostflame Dragon here, though, which will swoop down near the center of the field. It’s much more powerful than the one found in Gravesite Plains. Not far from the dragon, we’ll find Southern Shore Map, and further ahead, one of Miquella’s Crosses, as well as Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace.

Heading To Stone Coffin Fissure

From here, we’ll continue moving south. Near the southern end of this area, we’ll find a large fissure with a series of drop-offs that will require careful climbing to reach the bottom and discover Site of Grace.

Next, we’ll head south from Stone Coffin Fissure Site of Grace and head into the lower reaches of this area. There’s a loose rock here that will break off when we step on it, and we’ll somehow land safely on the ground below.

Before descending further, we can move northwest from Fissure Cross and descend into a secluded area. Watch out for falling putrescent oozes. We can then move a short distance east to find Velvet Sword of St. Trina.

We can then return to the last Grace and begin our descent in earnest. This time, we’ll head north, making our way from coffin to coffin.

There are a few Gravebirds guarding the path here, as well as a nasty Lookout Stone enemy that periodically fires lasers with pinpoint accuracy. If you want to play it safe, just take your time through this section, dealing with Lookout Stones as you go.

Eventually, we should reach Fissure Waypoint Site of Grace. From here, we’ll move northeast and jump onto a natural stone path. There’s a Shade form of a Lionel Misbegotten up ahead, so we might want to deal with Skeleton Warriors before moving on.

Anyway, Lionel Misbegotten shade drops a Multilayered Ring of Light incantation when defeated, and from there it’s a short distance southeast to reach Fissure Depths Site of Grace.

Defeat Putrescent Knight Boss

Next, we’ll head southwest along Coffin and jump off the end to reach the boss chamber. Note that there’s a summon sign for Thiollier near where we land, so be prepared for a fight.

Putrescent Knight Boss isn’t particularly powerful, but it’s also capable of dealing a lot of damage quickly. One of its blue flame moves is particularly dangerous, but can be avoided if timed correctly. After we’ve won, we’ll gain Remembrance of Putrescence, and Garden of Deep Purple Site of Grace will appear nearby.

Main Quest

Next, we can rest for a while at Site of Grace, then head west along the tunnel. We should find Thiollier talking to himself, and we can pick up St. Trina Disciple’s Cookbook [3] nearby.

We’ll need to talk to Thiollier a few more times until he doesn’t have anything new to say. Next, we’ll need to return to Site of Grace and rest there a total of three times. Once we’ve done that, we can return to Thiollier, who will once again be talking to himself. We can talk to him again, but he won’t have much to say.

For the next part, we will die a few times. We need to approach St. Trina and Imbibe Nectar, which will lead to our death. Then we need to repeat this step, Imbibe Nectar 4 times in total.

After the fourth Imbibe Nectar, a new event should be triggered, and we can then be resurrected at Site of Grace. We can then go and talk to Thiollier once more and convey the words of St. Trina. He will tell us to stop, but despite this, we should try to do it again.

After talking to Thiollier until his dialogue runs out, we can return to Site of Grace and rest there. Trying to return to St. Trina will trigger another battle, which is fairly easy. After we win, we will obtain St. Trina’s Smile Talisman, which increases attack power when sleep is triggered nearby.

If we return to the cave and talk to Thiollier, he will ask us a question, but we can’t answer it yet. Instead, we need to Imbibe Nectar 2 more times from St. Trina, or until she has nothing new to say.

Then we can return to Thiollier and deliver St. Trina’s last words, talking to him until there is no new dialogue. If we go to Site of Grace to rest and return to Thiollier, he will not do much except sighing when talking to him.

The last steps of Thiollier Questline take place at the same time as the last part of the major story of DLC. We need to reach a place called Enir-Ilim. Reaching this location requires defeating the ultimate boss in Shadow Keep, as well as the last boss in Ancient Ruins of Rauh area. After that, burn Sealing Tree in Church of the Bud, which will bring us to Enir-Ilim.

Given that the end of this questline is completed after defeating the last boss of DLC, which is extremely difficult, I recommend exploring Shadow Realm and collecting as many Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes as possible before continuing.

Summon Thiollier For Final Boss Fight

If you have completed all the steps in this guide, you should be able to summon Thiollier to assist you in the next boss fight. This is the second to last boss fight, and there are many rewards for completing it.

Heading to Divine Gate Front Staircase, and following the stairs up, we will find a summoning sign for Thiollier, as well as a summoning sign for Ansbach, assuming we have not betrayed him at any point.

I am not sure if summoning Thiollier is necessary to complete his quest, but I did summon him for the fight. If you want to take the risk and not summon him for the fight to see if you can still complete the quest, then that is your choice.

As mentioned before, the ultimate boss is very difficult. For myself, I am level 225, using Heavy Armor and Fingerprint Shield to block his worst attacks, as well as top-level Talismans, focusing on improving my defense, stamina regen, and casting speed.

Even so, it took me a few hours to finally defeat both Promised Consort Radahn and Radahn Consort of Miquella. If anyone has found a strategy that works particularly well against Radahn, I’m sure many others would be very grateful to you for sharing it.

Rewards

Anyway, once the last boss is defeated, we can move on to touching the memories left behind. We can find Thiollier’s body near the entrance to the arena and pick up Thiollier’s Hidden Needle Weapon and his Armor set.

Finally, we can return to St. Trina near Garden of Deep Purple and pick up Legendary St. Trina’s Blossom Head Armor, which will slightly increase your max FP. It also emits a faint glow, so that’s great.

The first map expansion in Fallout 76 brings players a lot of new tasks, events, weapon plans, etc., as well as some essential new enemies. Although they are somewhat similar to the enemies in previous games, they still give players a different gaming experience.

As you explore Skyline Valley, you’ll encounter a variety of new enemies. Some have very high health and are difficult to kill, others attack you very quickly, and some even look weird. Thrashers

Thrashers look a lot like oversized turkeys. Although its attack power is not very strong, it moves very fast, making it difficult for you to catch it accurately. In addition, they often appear in groups, making it even more difficult for you to defeat them. But as long as you aim more accurately, you can kill with a few moves.

There are three different types of Thrashers you can encounter in Skyline Valley: regular Thrashers, Toxic Thrashers, and Alpha Thrashers. Of the three types, Alpha Thrashers are the most difficult to defeat, as their attack power and health are slightly stronger than the other two.

You can bring any decent weapon with you to defeat them, but you still have to pay attention to accuracy. And since they often move in groups, your best shot is to jump onto any nearby building and shoot at them from above.

The Lost

The Lost are well known in Skyline Valley. They are charged enemies, some of which are feral and some of which are not. Regardless of whether they are feral or not, they will blindly attack you outside of Vault 63.

With a little thought, the most dangerous enemy is the Lost that has not yet been feralized, as they can still attack you with weapons and armor, while the Lost that has been feralized will only attack you with their bodies. There are 9 different types of Lost that you will encounter:

• Feral Lost
• Lost Dweller
• Lost Builder
• Lost Welder
• Lost Engineer
• Lost Heavy Engineer
• Lost Robot Master
• Lost Champion
• Lost Exalted Champion

Usually, these enemies are not difficult to deal with, and only require you to fire a few bullets or use a few melee weapons. The toughest Lost are those wearing Power Armor, as they are tanky enemies with high health and are difficult to defeat. So for new players, this can be a bit difficult and challenging.

Thunder Crab

Thunder Crab is a special variant of the hermit crab that appeared in previous games, and you can find it in Mire Region. The only difference between it and the regular hermit crab is also reflected in its name - it can be charged by lightning.

Thunder Crab becomes active during a Dangerous Pastimes event. And it is a three-star legendary enemy with a lot of health and strong attacks, so you try to keep a certain distance from it.

In order to complete a Dangerous Pastimes event, you have to knock it down. In this battle, the best way is to find a few more people to kill it with you; if the number of friendly people is too small, you can jump on the substation tower and shoot it from above.

Because of its strength, the player will gain a lot of XP after knocking it down. And after completing the Dangerous Pastimes event, you will also receive:

• Red Terror
• Plan: Burnt Vault Chemist Coat
• Plan: V63 Security Outfit
• Plan: Moe The Mole Safety Cutout

Storm Goliaths

New Unique Gear

Necromancer

Path of Trag’Oul (Boots): When you equip this Diablo 4 Item, the range of your Bone Prison traps increases, which means you can trap more enemies.

You will also shoot 20-30 Bone Splinters at enemies, and each time you hit a target, your Maximum Essence increases by 2 over 8 seconds.

Rogue

New Legendary Aspects

Barbarian

Forward Momentum (Mobility): In this class, knocking back enemies becomes one of the most commonly used skills. In subsequent games, as long as you successfully knock back an enemy, your movement speed will increase by 25%-40% and last for three seconds.

Druid

Necromancer

Creeping Mist (Mobility): This property reduces the cooldown of your Evade by 25%-35%, allowing you to use Evade during Blood Mist and double your travel distance. You should note that every time you enter or leave Blood Mist, your Evade cooldown will be refreshed.

Imperisoned Spirit’s Aspect (Offensive): When talking about equipment, it is mentioned that your Bone Prison traps will trap more enemies, but when Bone Spirit explodes inside, it will explode once more, causing 40%-70% damage. This means that Bone Prison will cause more damage to the enemies trapped inside.

Rogue

Nebulous Brews (Mobility): This attribute will increase your movement speed when you use a Healing Potion, up to 50%. The most useful thing is that after you move 30 meters, you will also generate a bottle of Healing Potion, so you will collect a lot of Healing Potion repeatedly.

Galvanized Slasher’s Aspect (Resource): It’s no secret that you deal damage to enemies when you use your mobile skill, Lucky Hit, but in Season 5, you’ll have a 15%-30% chance to recharge your energy to full, and even increase it by 10-25.

Iron Rain (Offensive): In this class, Smoke Grenade allows Rogues to daze enemies for a few seconds by throwing a smoky concoction at them. After improvements, Smoke Grenade also has a 40% chance to generate Arrow Storm, which deals physical damage for 3 seconds after the explosion.

Golden Hippopotamus is one of the easier bosses to find in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and has a relatively small set of attacks compared to bosses like Divine Beast Dancing Lion and Rellana.

But having a few moves doesn’t mean it’s easy to defeat. During the battle, one slight mistake on your part could put you in trouble. This guide will introduce the steps to defeat Golden Hippopotamus and its location, so that you are prepared for this battle.

Locations Of Golden Hippopotamus

Golden Hippopotamus is located in the courtyard in the center of Shadow Keep, and you will collide with him head-on if you enter from the southern entrance of Scadu Altus. Technically, this boss is an optional boss, but defeating him will give you two Scadutree Fragments as a reward, so it’s worth fighting him.

If you don’t have an NPC ally to help you, you can summon your Spirit Ash companion.

Preparation Before The Battle

As far as we know, this monster is weak in slashing damage and also has a poor balance. So you can break its balance by using gravity magic or strong attacks. In terms of skills, Rock Sling is recommended.

Even if you miss the hitbox that provides you with a critical hit during the fight with it, you can still cause serious damage by attacking its head.

In terms of weapons, swords, greatswords, and daggers are all very reliable helpers. Backhand Blade may not have such high scaling, but it provides fast strikes and unique Ash of War that allows you to dodge around the target, so you may also consider bringing it.

In addition, Blackgaol Knight’s sword is also a good choice. If you are using a magic build, any Elden Ring Items that can increase Faith or Intelligence can be used for you.

If you only want assists, then you need to start Hornsent’s questline first, because they can become your combat allies in this battle. In addition, you can also let your Spirit Ash summon do the work, especially if you have a Mimic Tear.

Steps To Fight

Golden Hippopotamus behaves similarly to Ulcerated Tree Spirits, with most of its lethal damage coming from its head and mouth. It has a long body and neck that stretches far out to prevent you from running away.

On the plus side, Golden Hippopotamus is afraid of direct damage because of its enormous size, which means you have more safe attack points to fight it than other bosses, especially since you have Spirit Ash to distract it.

Phase 1

Golden Hippopotamus will only attack you a few times in the initial stage, which may sound difficult to deal with, and it is, as these attacks are linked together. Golden Hippopotamus also moves faster than you think, so it is easy to be grabbed and knocked down before you can react.

After you fall, it will greet you with its mouth wide open and rush towards you. This attack will knock you to the ground again, leaving you vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Even if your armor is strong, you should try to dodge forward or sideways.

You can also avoid its head attacks this way. For example, if it’s running towards you with its mouth open, you can roll forward; when it’s about to bite you, you can dodge sideways.

Phase 2

When you get Golden Hippopotamus down to half its health, it will stop for a moment and golden branch-like thorns will grow on its back. You can use this time to perform some additional attacks from time to time, but be careful not to stay too long.

At this time, Golden Hippopotamus will send a burst of holy water spikes around, and it will occasionally repeat this attack if you stay close to it for a long time. It will signal this by shaking its body, so you need to be prepared in advance. This attack has a range of about two dodge rolls, so you don’t need to retreat too far. Avoiding the spikes is mainly based on luck, because all the spikes are strewn with sizeable gaps between each spike.

Rolling sideways at this time will put you in danger, so the best way to deal with it is to dodge forward. The most dangerous attack is when Golden Hippopotamus jumps into the air and stays there for a few seconds before falling and rolling forward. This move is very powerful and can kill you if you are not at full health.

Given the size of Golden Hippopotamus, your best bet for surviving is to dodge forward as it falls, or, if you are far from the impact point, dodge forward as it rolls towards you.

At this stage, Golden Hippopotamus will replace the previous head swing with a powerful bite. It will lunge forward to bite, then turn its head to the side, so you need to stay away from its face. In addition, its major method - charging is also used at the same time.

Tyler O’Neill’s offensive and defensive attributes are mostly pretty average, with his 82 power and 84 durability against left-handers being his top marks. But one area where he does excel is in speed, which is already at 98. He’s lightning fast and can cover a lot of ground on the field and bases. I think his other attributes should be improved to get a better balance. What do you think? We’ll see.

Daniel Hudson

Many players will convert their extra closers to relief pitchers. This isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but it puts extra pressure on the bullpen, as true relief pitchers need to be able to handle multiple innings. And Daniel Hudson is a quality bridge between starter and closer.

His three-digit H/9, K/9, and Pitching Clutch are all incredible, even for other top relief pitchers. Looking at his other pitching stats, every attribute except stamina is at least 85. Therefore, he’s a no-brainer on my Diamond Players list, at least.

Clayton Kershaw

The 36-year-old Clayton Kershaw shows no signs of rustiness as he wraps up his 16th season with Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran starting pitcher has 13 wins in 24 starts, his highest mark in the past five seasons.

Kershaw’s perfect Clutch Pitching stats and solid distribution between H/9, K9, and BB/9 categories make him a well-rounded and versatile pitcher who still has plenty of energy. With Kershaw’s services, Dodgers might be able to bring World Series back to Los Angeles.

Gameplay

Raging Rakshasa relies heavily on the power of Rakshasa’s Great Katana, hence the name. Swinging this Great Katana violently is able to deal a lot of raw damage and apply additional bleeding effects, making it even more deadly.

In addition, when making said swings, players will also gain a huge Hyper-armor to focus more on destroying enemies, especially bosses.

Raging Rakshasa also has high Strength and Dexterity, and a little Faith Stat that grants attack and defense boosting buffs. Its overall gameplay is simple but very effective.

Weapons

Now that the basic gameplay is out of the way, let’s move on to the gear you need to complete Raging Rakshasa.

Main Weapon: Rakshasa’s Great Katana

Let’s start with the major weapon of the build, which is Rakshasa’s Great Katana, one of the newest weapons added in DLC. This Great Katana requires 12 Strength, 27 Dexterity, and no Arcane Scaling, which is really weird in my opinion, and it’s D scaling for Strength and B for Dexterity.

Not only does Rakshasa’s Great Katana look really exceptional, but it also offers a devastating skill, Weed Cutter. This skill cuts the target horizontally and removes it like a weed, so its name matches its ability. As long as they have Stamina, the user can extend the use time of Weed Cutter, and it only costs 8 FP per use, which is crazy.

This skill hits like a truck every time it swings, and since it has an additional bleed effect on top of the original damage, you’ll be dealing a ton of damage in a matter of seconds.

Additionally, the user will gain Hyper-armor in the middle of the animation, allowing them to defend against or face normal attacks.

While it sounds OP, it has its downsides. While having Hyper-armor is good, the user will also take more damage in the process. And I think the animation of Weed Cutter is very slow, and if you don’t use it correctly, you’ll be vulnerable.

Secondary Weapon: Finger Seal

Moving on to the secondary weapon for this build, I recommend using Finger Seal. While any Seal will work, Finger Seal is the easiest one for us to get. And by equipping Seal, we can get the buff later.

Finger Seal is the starting equipment for Confessor and Prophet classes. If you don’t choose either of these classes, you can also choose to get it directly from Twin Maiden Husks for 800 Elden Ring Runes.

Spells

With the weapons out of the way, let’s move on to the suggested spells.

Flame Grant Me Strength

I mentioned that we’ll be getting buffs when using this build, so the first one on the list is Flame Grant me Strength, which provides an additional 20% Physical Attack Boost and Stamina Recovery Buff.

Golden Vow

The second buff on the list is, of course, Golden Vow. This buff increases overall damage by 15% and adds 10% Damage Negation, which is very helpful for us to offset the negative effects of Weed Cutter.

Talismans

Next, let’s get to the best Talismans for this build.

Shard of Alexander

The first Talisman on the list is our major hit, Shard of Alexander, which increases skill damage by 15%, especially when performing Weed Cutter. So be sure to slot this one.

Lord Of Blood’s Exultation

Since we deal with Bleed procs a lot with this build, I recommend slotting Lord of Blood’s Exultation. This Talisman will provide another 20% attack damage if blood loss procs occur near the user, which happens all the time when using this build.

Two-Headed Turtle Talisman

Next on the list is Two-Headed Turtle Talisman, which greatly increases Stamina Recovery. This is an upgrade from Green Turtle Talisman, and it will become the main Talisman I use in my build.

My gameplay and strategy always revolves around super aggressive gameplay and strategy, so most of the time, I’m completely running out of stamina. Therefore, the faster my stamina recovers, the more damage I can do to the enemy. What’s more, there are a lot of times you’ll find yourself with no stamina, especially after using Weed Cutter skill.

Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman

For the next Talisman, I recommend slotting Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for an extra 20% Physical Damage Negation. There’s a good chance you’ll be taking a ton of damage, especially when using Weed Cutter skill, so the damage reduction this Talisman provides will greatly help you survive. Not to mention that almost every enemy in DLC can take 1 or 2 shots and die, so you need this talisman.

Stats

Let’s move on to the stats for Raging Rakshasa.

Starting with Vigor, 50 points have been assigned to it. Since I’m used to Glass Cannon Builds, I rarely assign a lot of points to Vigor, however, since this build is more likely to go head-to-head with enemies, I think 50 points are best.

If you’re really good at the game, you can lower it. But if you’re still tuning in, make sure to assign 50 points, otherwise you’ll have trouble resisting the impact of all the enemies in DLC.

Next up is Mind, which has 25 points assigned to it. You can at least bump it up to 20 if you want and add it to your other stats since this build doesn’t require that much FP and Weed Cutter is very cheap to use.

Talking about Endurance next, we have allocated 30 points to it since the intended gameplay for this build is super aggressive. You will be facing off against bosses most of the time and will continue to use Weed Cutter skill, so I feel 30 points is enough for now. Of course, Endurance being an offensive stat, the more you have, the more damage you will be able to do.

In addition, you will also want to have at least 50 Strength and 79 Dexterity so that you can match up well with Rakshasa’s Great Katana. These two are the key attributes of this build, so pay attention to them. 

Next is Faith. We allocated 25 points so that you can use the aforementioned Golden Vow and Flame Grant me Strength.

Finally, since we don’t need Intelligence and Arcane, no points were allocated to them, they remain at 10 points.

How To Optimize This Build?

Now that stats are out of the way, let’s move on to Raging Rakshasa’s gameplay and optimization tips.

Prepare Wakizashi

The first tip I have for you is to prepare Wakizashi and fuse it with Ash of War: Golden Vow. Now, this tip is only for when you don’t want to invest up to 25 points into Faith.

While it’s relatively weak, with it you can still increase your damage by 11.5% and increase damage negation by 7.5% across the board. Of course, feel free to use any dagger, I just used Wakizashi to match the theme of the build.

Improve Your Opener

Secondly, optimizing your opener is also crucial. When the fight starts, I usually use Flask of Wondrous Physick first to make my continuous attacks more powerful. And, to get more damage negation, I will choose to cast Golden Vow to deal more damage and damage reduction. Finally, pop Flame Grant me Strength for more attack boosts, then rush the boss and start executing Weed Cutter skill.

Use Weed Cutter Wisely

The third tip is to manage Weed Cutter skill wisely. You can still die if you use this skill carelessly, so use it intentionally and leave time to use the skill.

Gear Up Properly

For the last tip, if you are playing well and don’t need damage reduction, you can swap out Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman for something like Rotten Winged Sword Insignia to get more damage.

You can also remove Opaline Hardtear and choose something like Strength-knot Crystal Tear, or get more stamina regeneration by equipping Greenburst Crystal Tear.

The fourth Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash is not as peaceful as the above. You need to climb to the top of Belurat Tower at Main Gate Site of Grace and kill scorpions to pick it up from the shriveled statue. In addition, there will be two other Elden Ring Items on the ground as your reward.

The fifth one requires you to defeat some birds first. They are located behind the Private Alter Site of Grace. After killing them, you can move to the next area, where there will be an enemy holding a pot waiting for you. After killing it, you will get the fifth Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash.

The sixth one is near Belurat Tower mentioned above. Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with this bridge, but at the end of it, there will be some very easy to defeat enemies. After killing them, you will see Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash lying peacefully in front of a shriveled statue in front of a tree.

The seventh one will appear after you defeat Dancing Lion boss. You can find it in Tower Settlement dungeon Belurat. It is difficult to defeat unless you use skills such as Pierce, Fire, Hemorrhage, Scarlet Rot to suppress it. After you defeat Dancing Lion boss, a Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash will automatically appear in this space.

The last Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash may require you to go back a little. Before you enter Ellac River Cave Site of Grace, remember to look around. You can find it on a ledge inside the cave.

Scadu Altus Revered Spirit Ash

Scadu Altus Revered Spirit Ash is easy to find. The first one is in Storehouse on First Floor Site of Grace. There will be a very large specimen statue inside. You can find it easily.

In the same place, but on the seventh floor, you will find another specimen statue. The second Scadu Altus Revered Spirit Ash will also be there. The third one requires you to go out and is located on the edge of a cliff near Moorth Ruins.

There you will find a corpse with Scadu Altus Revered Spirit Ash on it. In addition, this location is also where you go to Bonny Village. Speaking of Bonny Village, the fourth one is here. It is located at the north end of the entire canyon. You may need to walk a long way to find it. Again, it is on a corpse.

In the southeast of the ruins, on rivers of Unte, you will find the fifth Scadu Altus Revered Spirit Ash. The last one is also on a corpse in the Village of Flies, or more specifically on the pedestal.

Ruah Ruins Revered Spirit Ash

You’ll find 4 Ruah Ruins Revered Spirit Ashes in Ruah Ruins, two of which you can get from an enemy holding a pot like Gravesite Plains Revered Spirit Ash - one at the entrance to Ruah Ancient Ruins, and one in front of an elevator near some Spider Scorpions.

You’ll find it in Temple of Ruins, south of Ruah Ruins, where there’s a tattered corpse lying on a pedestal. You’ll also find it in Gazebo, where there are a lot of corpses.

Abyssal Wood Revered Spirit Ash

You’ll find two Abyssal Wood Revered Spirit Ashes after entering Abyssal Wood, one of the new areas with strong eye monsters in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

The first one is from the large Omen Shaman after you kill it. It gives you some Elden Ring Runes besides Revered Spirit Ash you want.

The second one is located on the second floor of Chamber Site of Grace. You need to turn north inside the building to find a chandelier with Abyssal Wood Revered Spirit Ash attached to it.

How To Use Revered Spirit Ash?

Revered Spirit Ash in Elden Ring works very similarly to Scadutree Fragment in the base game, so the method for using it is similar.

First, you need to go to any of the above locations to get yourself Revered Spirit Ash, then you can be teleported to any Site of Grace and can use them to access the menu. In the menu, select Shadow Realm Blessing.

After using it, you can summon Spirit Ash in any allowed location to see if they perform as you expect. Although this is not that important in combat, it will give you a little wiggle room and even a sudden comeback.
