WOW Classic SOD: 3 Things You Shouldn’t Do As A Warrior Tank!

Source: IGGMHi everyone, I’m back with another short WOW Classic SOD guide. I hope you all had a glorious holiday! In this guide, I’m going to tell you three things you shouldn’t be doing right now as a Warrior Tank.
As Season of Discovery, Warrior Tank has all the new Runes abilities and could overwhelm everything in Phase 1. Stop playing the game like it is 2024!
Never Play Protection
So the first thing we’re going to talk about is that you shouldn’t put any points in Protection in Phase 1. Because right now it’s hard to prove that any early Protection talent has any value at the level 25 cap.
The only thing you can prove is Last Stand or get some points in Defiance. And Iron Will, Anticipation, Shield Specialization and Toughness have no value at such a low level. If you add 3 points to Toughness, then the armor bonus for a level 25 item is 6%, which is what it’s worth.
I know I’m being super picky right now, but being protected as a Warrior Tank right now really doesn’t do you any good. Because then you’re actually only hurting your BFD or your dungeon group instead of actually helping.
It’s well documented that a Warrior Tank will have a hard time generating Rage damage and Threat as protection. Especially in 2024, DPS will explode on anything that moves immediately, but not all overpowered Runes and classes like Hunter.
No one is waiting for you to spawn a Threat or throw out two or three Sunder Armor. So not only will you be angry, but you won’t be able to hit anything because you’ll be running around chasing everything. Since you’re not dealing with any damage, you won’t be generating any Rage.
To give a quick overview of the remaining points, Improved Rend has three points, Heroic Strike has three points, Improved Charge has two points, Tactical Mastery has two points, Deep Wounds has three points, Improved Overpower has two points, and Impale has one point.
Don’t Be Using A Shield
Our next target is Shield. There’s no reason to use Shield right now, whether it’s for your dungeons, or even BFD and Turtle bosses outside of Aku’mai, or pugs that I run every 3 days. I can’t even tell you how I use Shield to tank a boss other than Aku’mai.
As a Warrior Tank, you should basically be the team’s DPS in most BFD raids, rather than hindering your team without Rage damage generation or Threat.
Especially now that the developers have weakened Reputation requirement for Waylaid Supplies, dual wielding is now possible. Therefore, either spending WOW Classic SOD Gold to upgrade Honored dual-wielding or two-handed weapon is a better choice than actually using Shield now.
Don’t Use Furious Thunder Or Devastate
Finally, as a Warrior Tank, something I never do is use Rune of Furious Thunder and Rune of Devastate.
I think Furious Thunder is a grossly overrated ability that should only be used on powerful bosses and raids. This is an enormous waste of rage when you get the same Threat value via Battle Shout, Quick Strike or Heroic Strike.
Frenzied Assault and Consumed By Rage, both of which increase attack speed with a two-handed weapon, are better Leg Runes for your Warrior, and may be valuable whether you’re DPS or tanking a Devastate. But you need a Shield to use it, which negates even using that rune entirely.
Therefore, you’re better off using the dual-wielding runes Single-Minded Fury and Endless Rage, which help with Rage generation or Quick Strike. These Runes I’ve listed provide better damage values and Threat output than Furious Thunder or Devastate.
That’s our roundup of 3 things you shouldn’t do as a Warrior Tank in Season of Discovery. Hopefully, this guide will help make your journey of discovery smoother!
