  • Black Myth Wukong: How To Choose The Best Skills For Your Build? - Skills & Sparks

    Posted: Aug 23, 2024

Having the right skills is important to succeed and go far in the game, and this is also true in Black Myth Wukong. In addition, as your skills level up, you’ll need a lot of literal Skill Points, aka Sparks.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to choose the best skills and use those Sparks wisely to help your Wukong become more powerful.

    How Does Sparks Work?

First and foremost, it’s important to understand how these Skill Points, aka Sparks, work. You earn a Skill Point every time you level up, and you’ll get a free one whenever you interact with one of the many Meditation Spots in the game for the first time. You can then use your points by simply opening Self-Advance tab on Pause Menu.

There are a lot of options to choose from right from the start, so we’ll just tell you which ones to get first, and provide some additional tips based on your preferred play style to make sure you don’t get overwhelmed.

At certain points in the game or when you reach certain character levels, more skills are unlocked. The number next to a skill indicates how powerful you have to be to unlock it, and don’t forget that you can always restore it at Keeper’s Shrine.

    General Skills

Now, let’s take a look at which skills you need to get at the beginning. Black Myth Wukong doesn’t have a build in the traditional RPG sense, and players are encouraged to use melee attacks, magic spells, and a bunch of other tricks to win those tough battles.

We’ll get into some specific play styles later, but for now there are some general skills that every player should master before starting to branch out.

The first and perhaps most obvious is Robust Constitution on Survival Skill Tree, and every point spent here will increase your Max HP, which has the obvious benefit of not dying too often.

As for Stamina Skill Tree, you’ll need Endurance and Simian Agility skills, which reduce your Stamina consumption when Sprinting and Dodging, respectively. Until you get more tools at your disposal, the best thing you can do is make yourself healthier and nimbler.

It’s also worth noting that Chapter 2 has a questline that allows you to get more Mind Cores. This is a key Black Myth Wukong Item that will help improve the base stats of Destined One.

    Specialized Skills

So once you reach this point, feel free to ditch these skills in favor of more specialized ones. Or you can try the more professional Black Myth Wukong Boosting to help you create an even more powerful character build!

    Melee Attacks

If you’re only focusing on those melee attacks, you’ll need to raise your Stamina higher. The more Stamina you have, the better your chances of attacking in succession and overwhelming your opponent. Rampant Vigor under Survival Skill Tree will increase this meter with each upgrade.

As for your specialized attacks, check out Martial Arts Skill Tree and pick up Swift Engage, which increases the range at which you can launch Light Attacks. The longer you have, the faster you can swoop in and start slamming. Effortless Finisher under the same Skill Tree increases Focus Points you get on the second hit of a combo.

If you want to use Heavy Attacks, you’ll need to quickly stack the meter, and these Heavy Attacks will change depending on the stance you’re in. This is why melee-focused players need to unlock the other two as soon as they become available.

    • Smash Stance is your default Stance, and while it hits the hardest, it also has the shortest range.
    • Pillar Stance deals AOE damage as part of your heavy attack.
    • Thrust Stance, as the name implies, lets you extend your staff and hit distant enemies with your heavy attack.

In short, the more you unlock here, the more overall melee options you have. The more Sparks you spend here, the more Focus Points you earn.

    Magic Spells

While you can’t really get through Black Myth Wukong with a Pure-Magic Build, the game does have some fun magic spells you can use to spice up your fights.

Once you complete the Bullard Boss Fight in Chapter 1, you’ll unlock Immobilize Skill Tree, which immobilizes enemies in place for a limited time, allowing you to get in some free hits.

If you choose to invest points into Crash skill, you’ll deal extra damage when an enemy is stunned. Stagnation skill is also key. If you hit an enemy while they’re stunned, the next time you hit them with Immobilize, they’ll be stuck for longer. Since this ability stacks, it’s absolutely vital for tough boss fights, especially when you need to catch your breath.

There are also a variety of Transformations in Black Myth Wukong that you can try out. Once you start unlocking them, it’s a good idea to invest some points in Evergreen skill under Transformation Skill Tree, which increases the power of all these special forms, meaning you can stay in your monster’s body for longer.

Note that all of these magic spells have cooldowns. However, they still require mana to execute once they’re ready, so make sure you invest in Spiritual Awakening under Survival Skill Tree to give yourself more mana to use.

    Stealth Spells

Finally, the game also offers a few stealthier options, meaning that even if you can’t play an out-and-out Rogue build, you can come up with a game plan to confuse and ambush your enemies.

It all starts with Cloud Step Spell, which is unlocked by defeating Black Wind King in Chapter 1. Then spend some Sparks on its Gallop ability, which will help you distract enemies. Gallop also lets you move faster when you’re cloaked and ready for a surprise attack.

While Converging Clouds, which makes your invisibility last longer, and Ruse, which makes your decoys gain more HP in total, these will help you deceive your enemies and knock down ranged opponents, such as all those annoying Archers.

In addition, you should invest some points in Concealed Observation under Cloud Step, which will increase your critical chance when using a surprise attack when you emerge from invisibility. If you pair it with Wrathful Escalation under Survival Skill Tree, you’ll further increase your overall critical chance.

This is a powerful combination. While it’s not a skill, you can craft the new Leg Armor once you defeat the last boss in Chapter 1. It can greatly increase your Unveiling Strike after remaining cloaked for a moment, and you’ll deal quite a bit of damage when you jump out.

All in all, hopefully this guide can help you find the play style and build that best suits your needs and survive to the end in this mysterious open world!
