Diablo 4 DLC Vessel of Hatred has been launched for a while now, and most players must have explored most of the mechanisms and content in the expansion. On this basis, you will definitely not be unfamiliar with the mercenary mechanism.
As an important mechanism in Diablo 4 DLC, mercenaries can serve as effective auxiliary NPCs to help players fight. They have their own unique skills and specialties, which can help players deal with different enemies and combat scenarios. Although unlocking them requires Diablo 4 Gold and some slightly complicated steps, their value is worth it.
There are 4 mercenaries in Vessel of Hatred, namely Raheir, Aldkin, Varyana and Subo. Players can choose and unlock up to 2 of them as their helpers in the game. Although the system will not limit your choice, you must want to choose as powerful or suitable mercenaries as possible.
Based on this, we have ranked these four mercenaries from low to high according to their specific performance in Vessel of Hatred for players’ reference and selection.
4. Aldkin
Before the mercenary mechanism was officially launched, Aldkin was anticipated because of his interesting design. Unfortunately, his performance in actual combat was not outstanding. His main skill, Blasphemous Fate, allows him to transform into a demon for 22 seconds and gives him new abilities.
However, during his transformation, not only nearby enemies but also your game character will become vulnerable, and then consume your resources when you cause damage to the enemy. And his transformation is random. So if these problems cannot be optimized, then using Aldkin will be a bit of a loss.
Even if the build or skills you use in battle do not depend on the amount of resources, Aldkin is still unsatisfactory as a companion. Although his Flame Surge skill tree has a chance to cause high damage to the enemy, when facing the higher level Torment difficulty, the damage he outputs is even far less than your own output.
Aldkin does get some pleasant benefits in Haunt skill tree, such as daze, slow or stun, which debuff enemies, but other mercenaries can do similar things. Aldkin may be effective in the early game, but his equipment lacks practicality and his overall potential is low, which makes him the lowest ranking of the four mercenaries.
3. Varyana
Varyana’s core skill Massacre allows both your game character and Varyana to stack massacres when killing enemies, and gain additional movement speed bonuses when stacking to a certain level. This effect can be stacked up to 100 times, at which point the movement speed can even increase by 20%.
If you are using a Build or Class with poor mobility and lack of speed, the benefits provided by Varyana’s skills are undoubtedly helpful. But if you already have strong mobility, Varyana is not the best choice among mercenaries for you.
In Varyana’s Cleave skill tree, she can bleed enemies, giving you another attack speed buff, and applying vulnerability, or a debuff that reduces the amount of damage dealt to nearby enemies. In her Shockwave skill tree, Varyana knocks down enemies multiple times, giving you different combat bonuses by knocking down those she controls.
But no matter which skill tree, Varyana is still more focused on enhancing the player’s mobility rather than damage output. Although both skill trees provide enough utility, if you need a mercenary with stronger damage, Varyana is relatively ordinary. However, if you are mainly lacking in movement speed or mobility skills, you can definitely add her to your team.
2. Subo
From a practical point of view, Subo is very similar to Varyana, and he can also provide players with some damage, crowd control and other buffs. However, what makes Subo special is his main skill Seeker.
This skill marks all nearby enemies and game materials on the minimap. Every 20 seconds Subo will mark a random enemy, and killing a marked enemy will help you restore 50% of your resources and reduce the cooldown of Seeker by 10 seconds. This skill is very useful if you want to farm Diablo 4 Gold or other game materials during Helltide.
In fact, no matter which mercenary, they are not designed as helpers for damage output, so their usefulness depends on how much they help in providing support. Whether it is other buffs or the help provided by Seeker skills, Subo has become the second-ranked mercenary.
Of course, Subo is not completely unable to provide damage buffs. For example, his Wire Trap skill tree provides slowing, knocking down and immobilization effects, while Molotov series has slowing, knocking down and increasing continuous damage effects. And if you hire him while playing a Poison or Bleed-based Build, the effect will be even better.
1. Raheir
Raheir is currently the most powerful mercenary in Diablo 4 DLC Vessel of Hatred. He can provide players with considerable damage reduction effects, as well as healing, enhancements, and debuffs. He can be said to be a powerful mercenary because he is very comprehensive.
His main skill, Valiance, has a great support effect. When you take damage that reaches 15% of your current health, Raheir’s skill will offset the damage you take and knock down nearby enemies, while you will be invincible on the battlefield for 0.5 seconds.
In addition, most of Raheir’s skills in both skill trees have certain practical or support effects. For example, his shield charge line can bring you a variety of benefits such as strengthening, deceleration, additional armor, damage reduction taunts, and which ones you can get depends on the specific skills you choose. This makes Raheir’s practicality shocking, easily surpassing other mercenaries and becoming the first.
The above is our ranking of the four mercenaries based on their overall performance. Of course, the ranking is just a reference. In actual combat, players need to make a comprehensive choice based on their own needs and situations to select the mercenary that suits them best.
