Monopoly Go Frequent Tournaments & Events: Does Such A High Density Of Events Make Sense?

If you have played this board game, you will know that Monopoly Go is almost composed of frequent daily events, whether it is a big or small festival celebration or a weekly or monthly periodic event, you are almost always rolling dice to drive tokens to move continuously on the board, win points, and finally rank at the top of each event.
I think there must be players who don’t know much about this game and ask why not selectively participate in some events. After all, it’s just a game, and the initiative is always in the hands of the players. However, I would say that this is a very ideal situation.
In fact, for some board game enthusiasts, they always invest a lot of time in Monopoly Go’s daily events, because these events always provide a certain chance to get Monopoly GO Dice and stickers, which is a key element for them to continue to advance the game. If they choose to give up participating in most of the events, it is no different from letting them give up the game directly, not to mention that many players have already paid a lot of sunk costs. So, rather than being able to choose to participate in events, you’re forced to participate in them.
Dopamine Simulator?
Honestly, the way Monopoly GO works right now, it’s not even really a game. It’s like a click-and-place game with an energy system and all the psychological tricks of mobile games, except there are some shiny collectibles and cash rain that explode every few seconds to constantly stimulate the player’s senses.
Unlike classic board games, Monopoly GO is almost endless, all you can do is roll the dice, collect tokens and cash, complete buildings and upgrades, and jump to the next board. There is no strategy here, no game loop at all, just like a slot machine, you just mechanically click the screen.
Of course, there are other mini-games to spice up your life. Occasionally you will enter Shutdown to choose to attack someone else’s building, but you actually just touch the building and the animation will play. Or in another mini-game, Bank Heist, it’s like playing a scratch lottery, you just need to find 3 matches to get another exploding amount of money on the screen. But all you can do is click the screen blindly.
So, this is not a game at all, it’s just a dopamine simulator.
Pay To Win?
As we said before, all you can do in the intensive daily activities is to keep rolling the dice, of course, you can also increase the chips and rewards of each action through the dice multiplier to stimulate your adrenaline! Does it feel familiar? This is the mobile version of gambling!
Although we all know that these activities are almost the same except for the different themes, after all, the milestone rewards they offer are linked to the most important albums in each season, and this is also an important channel for you to get more dice, tokens, skins and other collectibles, so almost no players can refuse them.
But, to be honest, compared to the initial release of Monopoly GO, the frequency of tournaments has increased, interspersed with different Treasure Dig Events, Racers Events, Partners Events, etc., our entire lives are filled with these events, and there is no respite.
However, this is just a means for Scopely to make money under the banner of rich gameplay. Monopoly Go and all its events are rigged, and the ultimate goal is to make you spend as much money as possible to try to win, but they know that no matter how much effort anyone puts in, you can’t win!
Take the recent Monopoly Go St Patrick’s Day Parade event as an example. The first few milestones in this event require dozens of points to unlock, but by the last few, the points required have reached a staggering thousand or even tens of thousands of points, which is really ridiculous.
Of course, you can only focus on the milestones in the first half, but the rewards available on this part are so shabby that it is not worth it. But if you go to great lengths to get the last milestone of a large number of dice, purple sticker packs, or special collectibles, your hard-earned resources may also be squandered.
Then, if you don’t want to wait for the empty dice stocks to slowly replenish, the only thing you can do is to spend real money to get expensive dice packages in the store. But this is always a bottomless pit, because the event is endless. When you see others using the latest skins and reaching higher net worth levels, will you be envious? Then you will run to the store again. Yes, that’s what Scopely wants to see.
So, what you can see is just another board game that has turned to pay-to-win, and if you don’t spend money, you can’t even get a step in the game.
Is It Worth Spending Money?
So is Monopoly GO a game worth investing in? In fact, in most cases, spending money will rarely bring you long-term benefits. The collectibles in Monopoly GO are indeed beautiful, but there are few and really useless for your game progress, so most of them will be short-lived.
As you can see from the sticker albums that reset each season, once the album is completed or ends, they will all disappear, and you will not even have evidence to prove that you have spent money on this game.
Considering these reasons, we believe that although spending money can bring you a better gaming experience, Monopoly GO does not provide enough physical items to make spending real money a reliable investment. Of course, if you are just pursuing fun and don’t care about the loss of your assets, then it’s totally up to you!
In any case, the high density of activities in Monopoly GO has brought significant burdens to players while providing a certain amount of fun, which has also caused considerable controversy in the community. I think if Scopely does not want to end the life of their flagship product in the past two years, it is urgent to re-plan their event schedule!
