This boss was launched with version 5.5 and is one of the normal bosses in Natlan region. As its name suggests, it combines the flame characteristics of Natlan’s volcanic desert while integrating the elements of dragons and statues. It is very deterrent just from the appearance. But in fact, from the perspective of combat mechanics, if you can master its state changes and attack patterns, you can defeat it smoothly, and the loot is also very good!

- Open the map and click on Lava Dragon Statue boss icon to see its underground location, and add a mark at the entrance to start navigation.
- From the teleport point, follow the main road to Atocpan until you see your mark or the opening on the map.
- Move to the right side of the road to enter the green area, find the opening leading to the underground and jump in - don’t forget to use Plunge Attack to offset the fall damage.
- Continue along the only open road, and then you will find the way to the underground teleport point and Lava Dragon Statue boss.
How To Defeat Lava Dragon Statue?
Considering it’s just a regular boss, as long as your character is above average and you try to keep as much distance between you and the boss as possible during the fight, you can dodge its attacks while dealing damage to it.
Boss Attacks
Lava Dragon Statue’s main attack is to pounce on you with its entire body in various ways, which is easy to avoid, doesn’t do much damage if you get hit, and can be quickly healed to get you back to top form if you have a healing character in your party. The boss also has two ranged attacks, but they’re also easy to dodge.
What makes this boss really dangerous is that when it’s in its base state, it has a RES of 70% against all elemental and physical damage. Generally speaking, when fighting bosses in Genshin Impact, you need to avoid using the same element as the other party, but Lava Dragon Statue is special in that it requires you to use a lot of Pyro characters to defeat it instead.
Fury Meter
While you can still defeat this boss without filling up its fury meter, filling it up will stun the boss and lower its resistance, allowing you to deal more damage to it with each attack. The fury meter is normally recharged each time you deal fire damage or apply fire.
After the first charge is completed, the boss will enter Molten Dragon state, where a new fury meter will appear and you can continue to recharge it, but you need to avoid dealing Cryo or Hydro damage, which will cause the fury meter to downward. During this stage, the boss’s resistance will be reduced, making it easier to defeat it.
After filling the fury meter twice, Lava Dragon Statue will fall to the ground and remain motionless in over-burn state. It will be more vulnerable to additional damage at this time, and you must kill it before it wakes up, otherwise it will recover 70% of its resistance, forcing you to repeat the previous steps again.
Which Characters Can Provide Effective Help?
To ensure you can quickly recharge your fury meter during battle, it is recommended that you prioritize the following Genshin characters in your team:
- Bennett
- Xiangling
- Hu Tao
- Amber
- Kinich
- Nahida
- Emilie
- Any Pyro/Dendro Combo
Some of these characters have generally low attack ICD, and some can apply multiple Pyro units per attack, which can speed up the fury meter recharge progress.
What Loot Can Be Obtained?
In addition to the regular rewards, killing this boss will also drop about 3 Sparkless Statue Cores, which can be used to Ascend Varesa, a new character in version 5.5. If you want to upgrade this character to the maximum level, you need to Ascend 6 times, consuming a total of 46 Sparkless Statue Cores, which means you need to defeat this boss at least 16 times at the highest world level! Considering Varesa is an excellent character, it should be worth the effort.
