FFXIV New Patch 7.2: What New Content Will You Experience In This Large Patch? - In-Game & Quality Of Life Changes
Since Final Fantasy 14 launched its own Dawntrail expansion last summer, players’ opinions and comments on it have been in an unstable state: at first, the content in the new expansion brought a lot of freshness to the players, but since late July, players have begun to be dissatisfied with the speed of introducing new content, and feel that it can’t keep up with the speed of players’ exploration.
But in the spring of 2025, this situation will improve, because on March 25th FFXIV will launch its own Patch 7.2, called Seekers of Eternity, which will bring a lot of new content and game improvements to players, such as new dungeons, trials, major updates to PVP, and large-scale new exploration content.
From a lot of information leaked so far, it can be seen that Seekers of Eternity strives to provide some new playable content for players with different play styles. This guide will introduce you to what new game content you will experience in the upcoming Patch 7.2 based on some information released by Square Enix and leaked by the player community.
In-Game
Like previous major patches for FF14, Patch 7.2 will continue the game’s main story quests and expand on some of the events introduced in the previous Dawntrail. The most exciting thing for players may be the addition of a new dungeon, The Underkeep, and some new mechanics and challenges will also be added to the game with the addition of this new dungeon.
In addition, the new Trial Recollection will provide players with two difficulties, Normal and Extreme, giving high-level players another opportunity to test their characters’ abilities against powerful enemies. Similarly, the most proud raid content in Final Fantasy 14 has also received a major expansion: The Arcadion - Cruiserweight has been added.
This new raid series will be launched first in Normal difficulty and is expected to be opened to Savage difficulty for players with higher abilities a week later. You can expect to experience very complex combat mechanics and some high-intensity combat in it, as the setting of this raid is one of the most difficult content in the game so far.
It is also worth noting that Hells’ Kier (Suzaku) will return to the game as Unreal Trial, which may bring a nostalgic but very fresh gaming experience and challenge to some old players.
The Occult Crescent, a new wild exploration area expected to be added in Patch 7.25 on May 27, has aroused great interest from players. The design of this large multiplayer game mode is actually very similar to Eureka and Bozja in Dawntrail. It will take players to a mysterious island in the Shades Triangle and provide some large-scale boss stations, a raid content with up to 48 players to explore in a group, and a progression system that encourages exploration.
Players will increase their Knowledge Level in The Occult Crescent so that they can challenge more difficult content. However, it must be mentioned that this operation is somewhat risky, because at higher Knowledge Levels, once you experience death in it and are not resurrected by other players in time, the experience points and FFXIV Gil you earn in it will be lost.
If you use Phantom Job system, you will use exclusive and unique job abilities in this explorable area. At the beginning of exploration, only Freelancer jobs are available, but as you explore in it, you can unlock more Phantom Jobs, such as Geomancer, Ranger, Time Mage, Berserker, and Cannoneer.
Compared to The Occult Crescent, Cosmic Exploration may be launched earlier, expected in Patch 7.21 on April 22, and it introduces a new mode designed for in-game crafters and gatherers. This new cooperative activity will allow players to develop new planets over time: you need to start by building a base, and then expand the entire planet under the progress of tasks and time.
Note that the progress of each server is unique and also provides players with single-player and team activities. At the same time, some special rewards, Star Contributor system, and a large amount of FFXIV Gil will also be added to increase your interest in this new mode. This is very beneficial for players who like to craft in the game and strive to get all the collectibles.
Quality Of Life Changes
Not only has Patch 7.2 changed the content available to players, but the quality of life provided to players has also undergone some changes, such as the ability to sort food, potions, and sprints by players, so as to facilitate a more seamless and smooth gaming experience.
A new fuel color, Metallic Cobalt Green, has also been added, as well as a new set of crafting gear to facilitate the smooth implementation of Cosmic Exploration. In addition, Duty Support system will also include The Sunken Temple of Qarn, making it easier for single players to experience this interesting dungeon with NPC allies.
In terms of combat, some melee DPS jobs will receive some damage buffs, but Dawntrail’s newly introduced Job Pictomancer will receive some nerfs to ensure the balance of the entire game. For PVP, Series 8 will take over from the soon-to-be-ended Series 7, so players may need to claim any remaining rewards in Series 7 before the official release of the patch on March 25.
With the current release of Final Fantasy 14’s Patch 7.2 and subsequent minor patches, Square Enix has begun to listen to players and maintain a steady update cadence in order to rekindle player interest in the game.
But whether these new additions can maintain player engagement is still worth thinking about. Regardless, with the next chapter of Dawntrail and this new patch, players will have a lot to look forward to. I wish you a happy gaming!

FFXIV Little Ladies’ Day: How To Complete This Event?
Hello, players! Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.2 will be officially launched in late March, right around the corner, right? But before that, the annual Little Ladies’ Day also debuted as scheduled.
As the most romantic month in December, Little Ladies’ Day occupies nearly half of March. The specific time of this event is from March 3, 2025 to March 17, 2025. Maybe after this event, patch 7.2 will be officially launched.
What Is Little Ladies’ Day?
Little Ladies’ Day is a traditional festival in Eorzea in the game. The prototype should be from Hinamatsuri in Japan, also known as Doll’s Day or Girl’s Day. Some coincidences are that International Women’s Day is also within the date of this interactive event. And this festival in the game comes from the legend of a princess imprisoned in a palace in the background of the game.
Every year, various events are held in the game to celebrate Little Ladies’ Day. This year, the organizers decided to launch a new idol, Prince Seneschal. But due to a problem with his costume, Prince Seneschal disappeared before the event.
As a contestant and former winner of Little Ladies’ Day fashion show competition, Marabel she asked Warrior of Light to help Prince Seneschal understand the role he needs to play. Prince Seneschal is very distressed about what a butler is, and Warrior of Light needs to help him ask various NPCs to solve his problems. This is the main quest line of this event.
After helping Prince Seneschal solve his problems, he successfully performed on stage, and Songbird trio also appeared. Then there are some embarrassing idol performance clips. Finally, as a thank you for helping him, Warrior of Light received a replica costume. You must have guessed that this is the biggest reward of this event, of course, in addition to this, there are also some EXP and Final Fantasy XIV Gil.
How To Complete The Quest?
First, You need to be level 15 to participate in Little Ladies’ Day, which is not difficult. Even novice players can easily reach the requirement within a little time.
Next, You need to go to Ul’dah - The Steps of Nald and talk to Lalafell NPC Royal Seneschal to start the quest. Its coordinates are (X:10.5, Y:8.6).
Then you need to continue talking to the following NPCs:
- Picot: (X:10.2, Y:12.4) in Ul’dah - The Steps of Thal
- Well-dressed Noblewoman: (X:13.8, Y:12.7) in Ul’dah - The Steps of Thal
- Bargain Hunter: (X:14.2, Y:10.9) in Ul’dah - The Steps of Thal
- Resting Server: (X:13.3, Y:9.0) in Ul’dah - The Steps of Thal
You must first talk to Picot at (X:10.2, Y:12.4) to receive the quest, then talk to the other three people. Finally, go to (X:11.2, Y:10.8) and talk to Picot again, and tell him your favorite option to complete the quest. But it’s not over yet, you still have quests to complete.
A Princely Debut
Continue to talk to Picot at (X:11.2, Y:10.8) to get A Princely Debut quest. Then meet up with Picot in front of Ruby Road exchange. It is recommended that you choose to check the stage with Picot. You will then encounter a mini puzzle where you need to help Picot find the character that defines a Seneschal Prince. You have 4 options to interact with:
- Quicksand Employee
- Songbirds Fans
- Royal Seneschal
- Picot
After the interaction, choose the answer you want. Finally, talk to Marabel while Picot prepares for the show. Finally, return to Steps of Nald and talk to Royal Seneschal (X:10.5, Y:8.6), then talk to Picot to complete the quest.
During the show, Picot will show off his newly designed suit, becoming the newest pop star at the festival. Songbird trio makes a brief cameo appearance, and they express their deep impression of Picot.
Rewards
- 1,440 EXP
- 324 Final Fantasy XIV Gil
- Seneschal Prince’s Headset
- Seneschal Prince’s Jacket
- Seneschal Prince’s Gloves
- Seneschal Prince’s Trousers
- Seneschal Prince’s Longboots
- ‘I Wanna Be Your Pop Star’ achievement
Seneschal Prince suit is a replica of the suit worn by Picot in the cutscene, with two dye slots for each piece to customize. The suits awarded in this event are different from previous ones. This time, both male and female characters can wear the suit, while previous Little Ladies’ Day events usually rewarded separate suits for male and female characters.
In addition to the above rewards, you can also talk to Royal Handmaiden next to Royal Seneschal to get two miscellaneous item rewards: Peach Confetti and Cherry Confetti. Each item is equivalent to 10 Gil.
After Little Ladies’ Day event, you will no longer be able to obtain Seneschal Prince set, so be sure to complete all the tasks before the event ends! The next festival in Final Fantasy series, Hatching Tide, will be in April. At that time, patch 7.2 will also be officially launched. This will be an event based on Easter, which is also worth looking forward to.

FFXIV Patch 7.2: What Will It Bring? - New Raid, Dungeon And PVP Updates
If you are familiar with FFXIV, you will know that it is necessary to release patches or updates regularly. Generally speaking, small patches of FF14 focus on fixing some minor bugs in the game, while large updates will provide you with more new gameplay and new content while making fixes and optimizations.
Since the release of the fifth expansion Dawntrail last July, the popularity of Final Fantasy 14 has been at a good level. In order to continue the popularity in 2025, the game will release a major update soon, namely patch 7.2. In order to make you adapt to this update faster by then, we will introduce some of its contents in advance.
Overview Of Patch 7.2
The 7.2 patch is called “Eternal Seeker” and is expected to be released in late March, and the most likely date is March 25, 2025. While this isn’t a full new DLC, you can still look forward to this patch, as it will not only continue the main story from Dawntrail expansion, but will also provide you with more opportunities to earn Final Fantasy XIV Gil, including:
- A new dungeon called The Underkeep
- A new extreme trial called Recollection
- A new raid called Arcadion: Cruiserweight Tier (best to participate if you are experienced and have a high enough character level)
In addition to the above, patch 7.2 will also bring two major new features, Cosmic Exploration and Occult Crescent. The former will allow crafters and gatherers to complete new projects and explore new planets together, while the latter will provide you with large-scale combat activities similar to Eureka or Bozja, giving you the opportunity to earn new abilities. However, before 7.2, FF14 will also release patch 7.18 on February 25, 2025 to eliminate savage loot lockouts.
New Raid & Dungeon
The mysterious new dungeon, The Underkeep, is inspired by Final Fantasy IX and is set in the world of Solution 9. While its gameplay style and story are heavily influenced by FFIX and details are being kept under wraps, it promises to provide you with a new experience and more FFXIV Gil.
The new raid series continues the game’s usual lightweight style and introduces new bosses for you to defeat, while a unique NPC shown in the live letter using a spray can may hint at some of the mechanics and themes in the raid.
It is worth mentioning that one of the arenas in the raid is a disco-themed dance floor, which should give you some fun and quirky map design. It has also been confirmed that one of the battles is very fast-paced, so if you like action-packed battles, you should be happy when you get there.
Overall, the new dungeon is suitable for both casual players and players who want to upgrade their gear, while the new raid is suitable for those who want to challenge the end content. In fact, the new content brought by patch 7.2 will keep you busy and prevent you from forgetting about the game before FFXIV Mobile is launched.
New Story & Trials
In terms of new storylines, patch 7.2 will continue the content of 7.1, based on plot and character development, and bring you the side quest stories of familiar characters outside of dungeons and main stories. For example, Inspector Hildibrand will return to embark on more interesting adventures, and Mamool Ja will let you play an important role in Eorzea as a gatherer.
In addition, a new trial called “Memories” will be available in both normal and hardcore modes, in which the main enemy looks like a robot version of Beatrix from FF9. To defeat it, you must not only have quick reactions, but also cooperate with your teammates. If you can complete the trial in hardcore mode, you will get a special Wings mount and unlock a new side quest.
For patch 7.2, the dungeon should be the most important part of this update, while quests and trials are slightly less, so the dungeon may occupy more attention than quests and trials. Fortunately, this dungeon is large enough, and it should be enough to keep you going until the next update will be released.
PVP Mode Updates
First of all, patch 7.2 will update the original PVP content in FFXIV. The first item is to open PVP series 8, allowing you to get new rewards through PVP mode, so you’d better complete all the goals of Series 7 in time. These rewards usually include special equipment, new emotes, titles and other decorative items.
The second item is the return of the revamped frontline map Secure. This map was not popular in the past, but fortunately, the developers have improved it based on player feedback. Although the specific changes have not yet been revealed, you will definitely get more interesting and balanced options, to get daily rewards and make progress in the PVP series in another way.
In addition, the new PVP content will allow you to try more new strategies and get a more balanced combat environment, ensuring that all jobs and play styles in the PVP mode are competitive. But don’t worry, because these balance adjustments are a common form of FFXIV PVP mode updates to ensure that the game combat environment can maintain a balance.
The above are the main updates of patch 7.2. It is obvious that it has very high playability and is worth your anticipation, and you will invest more time in Final Fantasy 14 after it goes online. I wish you a happy time!

FFXIV Prishe Battle Guide: How To Deal With This Retro-Style Enemy In Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid?
Final Fantasy 14’s Dawntrail expansion, released last year, is known for its new combat, with encounters that are a big step up from previous expansions. Players say they’ve had a completely unique experience since the first dungeon, with more bosses with more gimmicky attacks and tougher bosses.
Jeuno: The First Walk is a great example of this, as it’s a new Alliance Raid in the expansion, and each enemy has its own rules, giving you a variety of gameplay. On top of that, many elements of the raid are themed after the series’ first MMO, Final Fantasy 11, so die-hard fans of the series may be surprised.
However, since Prishe of the Distant Chains in this raid are the first enemies you encounter, and their moves and mechanisms are very difficult, you may need the methods introduced in this guide to unlock this raid and the strategies to fight this enemy, which will ensure that you can complete more tasks or battles in a limited time and speed up the overall exploration process.
How To Unlock The Raid?
First of all, we need to understand that Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid is located in Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid series, and this series requires you to complete Dawntrail Main Scenario Quest to unlock it.
After unlocking the series of raids, you can talk to Hoobigo Messager in Tuliyollal (X:13.0, Y:11.6) to obtain An Otherworldly Encounter quest. After you watch a few cutscenes, you will be sent by NPCs to investigate Yak T’el, and Jeuno: The First Walk raid will be unlocked during this process.
According to the developer, Jeuno: The First Walk is a level 100 raid that you and 23 other players will have to team up to explore. These players will be divided into three Alliances (or Full Parties), each of which will have 8 players. Like most raids, each party will have one Tank, two Healers, and 5 DPS, but it should be noted that you and all other players must be at item level 695 or higher.
Strategy For Fighting Prishe Of The Distant Chains
The Jeuno: The First Walk raid will be divided into four different boss battles and some small encounters. You will encounter the first enemies when you first enter. They are not very powerful, so you don’t have to worry too much, but you should still avoid standing between them for too long, otherwise you will suffer very high area damage over time.
Also, use your 1 minute cooldown as soon as possible, because they should come back for the real boss battle. Next up, the first challenge you’ll encounter in the raid - Prishe of the Distant Chains, is also well-known character from FF11, so hardcore fans will probably be familiar with her.
But unlike in previous games, her attacks have been overhauled, but they’re still very interesting. Here are some moves you’ll face and some strategies to deal with them.
Banishga
This is an area of effect damage to your entire team, and it can’t be dodged. So all party members should spend as much FFXIV Gil as possible to increase their health regeneration speed to deal with this area of effect damage.
Knuckle Sandwich
Prishe will draw three circles of different sizes on the ground, the smaller circle inside the larger one, and prepare to hit them. You can tell which circle she’s going to hit by how many times she says Wait for it...: if she says it once, she’ll hit the first circle inside; twice, she’ll hit the second circle; three times, she’ll hit the larger third circle.
During this move, besides paying attention to her voice, you also need to try to stay next to the circle under attack so that you can get to a safe area as soon as possible before the attack. If you are hit, the bleeding debuff will be applied. Generally, this move will be repeated twice throughout the battle, so you may want to pay special attention.
Nullifying Dropkick
At this time, Prishe will turn into a Tank Buster and stack all her damage capabilities on a random tank, so the tanks in this squad may suffer tremendous damage, so all tanks of the three alliances must be stacked to keep it alive.
Banish Storm
Normally, Banish Storm will appear immediately after Nullifying Dropkick, and Prishe will summon two scepters with arrows around the arena, and the direction pointed by the arrows will be attacked in a straight line. You and your teammates should find a safe place between all the scepters to avoid being hit by that scepter, or use FFXIV Gil to upgrade or improve your defense capabilities appropriately.
Holy
In Holy, the boss will attack random players with the diffusion debuff. If you are targeted, move away from other players who are affected by the same debuff, or you will both take unbearable debuff damage. Meanwhile, the healer on your FFXIV team needs to be nearby to restore your health and mana.
Crystalline Thorns
During Crystalline Thorns, you will see a lot of spikes around the arena, with only a few small safe areas. You will also see three ropes on all players’ backs pointing in different directions, the same color as the circles that appear in Knuckle Sandwich. At this point, she will begin to cast Auroral Uppercut.
Auroral Uppercut
As mentioned above, you will find ropes on your back, which are the connectors that the boss uses to attack you. As with Knuckle Sandwich, you can also tell which rope it will attack by how many times she says Wait for it...: once, it will hit the first rope; twice, it will hit the second rope; three times, it will hit the longer third rope.
But be careful, with saying twice, please point the middle tether to a place without spikes, otherwise you will take double damage. And be careful not to fall off the arena or fall on the spikes, which will add bleeding debuffs or even death to you.
Banishga IV
This is also another AOE damage that Prishe targets your entire team, and it will also form various spheres around the arena, which will damage you after they expand and explode. So what you can do is to find a safe position, or wait for the nearby spheres to explode and stand still to avoid your FFXIV character from contacting the damage.
Asuran Fists
After Prishe uses the attack combination of Crystalline Thorns and Auroral Uppercut again, it will target a tower and use it to cause large-scale AOE damage to you. In this case, all players must stack to share the damage, and add some gear that can increase damage reduction to your FFXIV character build to make it easier to get through this difficult time.
After Prishe falls, you and Bakool Ja Ja will encounter a forest with more normal enemies that can be defeated by just normal attacks. But leave some cooldown time so you can prepare for the subsequent boss encounter. That’s it for the current strategy for fighting Prishe, a very important enemy in Jeuno: The First Walk Alliance Raid in FFXIV Dawntrail. Hopefully, this guide will allow you to complete all the challenges in this boss encounter faster and more smoothly, and move on to the next encounter with a lot of rewards and loot. Have fun!

FFXIV Castrum Meridianum Dungeon: How To Safely Complete This Dungeon With Three Bosses? - Full Guide
As you progress through your character level in Final Fantasy 14, you’ll encounter a special dungeon at level 50 called Castrum Meridianum, which is also the penultimate dungeon to explore in Patch 2.0’s A Realm Reborn MSQ. Only by completing this dungeon can you advance to the final dungeon run.
While the quest to explore this dungeon isn’t too difficult, you may need some combat strategies to help you complete this Castrum Meridianum dungeon run more quickly, because it contains three boss encounters. Plus, this dungeon has long cutscenes before each encounter, so if you’re limited on time, having the strategies for unlocking and defeating the bosses covered in this guide may allow you to complete all the quests without rushing.
Unlock Castrum Meridianum
As mentioned above, you can unlock this dungeon by completing the penultimate Rock the Castrum main quest in A Realm Reborn MSQ. After you complete the quest, you can enter it using Duty Finder. Alternatively, you can move to the entrance of Northern Thanalan, which also leads to Castrum Meridianum dungeon you need to explore next.
Once inside, you can complete the exploration of this huge dungeon one by one, according to the quest log on the screen. You will encounter three bosses in turn: Black Eft, Magitek Vanguard F-1, and Livia Sas Junius. The other little monsters are pretty simple, and as long as your item level is high enough, you can rely on them in this dungeon to farm FFXIV Gil as well as other loot that can be used to enhance your build.
Three Bosses
Of course, before challenging these three bosses, you need to first understand their attack moves and mechanisms so that you can effectively deal with and avoid them. Next, we will introduce the specific information of these three bosses one by one. Please prepare your powerful characters and start fighting!
Black Eft
The first boss you need to fight is Black Eft, and some 8th Cohort soldiers. They mainly use auto attacks to cause small amounts of damage to you or cast continuous fire damage on you. You only need to improve your own defense ability, and Black Eft has the following attack moves that you need to pay attention to.
- High-powered Magitek Ray: The boss will cause untelegraphed area damage to the front of itself. During this skill, you will see that it is gathering power in the cannon in front of it. This is a sign. You need to move to its sides or back to avoid this attack.
- Incendiary Support: This skill will cause four unavoidable damage to your entire team, so during this period, the healer in the team needs to exert force to restore the health of all players quickly.
- Request Assistance: Like many bosses, Black Eft will also spawn more enemies during the battle to help it cause more damage to you, including more 8th Cohort soldiers and Magitek Colossi. At this time, any skills that can cause group damage come in handy, and you can gather them together to knock them all down.
- Magitek Cannon: The boss will deal damage in a circular area around random players, just avoid it.
It is important to note that Black Eft will repeat these attacks. So be careful at all times to avoid taking a lot of damage. After you defeat Black Eft, you can go to east through Disposal Chute and continue your exploration.
Magitek Vanguard F-1
The second boss to appear in Castrum Meridianum dungeon is Magitek Vanguard F-1. It has no other helpers, so you only need to focus on the following attacks it uses.
- Thermobaric Strike: The boss will first mark a corner of the arena with an AOE. The closer you are to the mark, the more damage you will take. So before it shoots the mark, try to predict the general direction and leap to the other end.
- Hypercharge: It will create a circular and ring-shaped area of damage to itself. You will see a small ring of safety between the two areas, so you need to keep moving to avoid those areas of damage.
- Cermet Drill: The boss will deal high damage to Tanks in the group. Even if the tank has strong health, try to reduce the cooldown of defensive skills to reduce the damage caused by this move.
- Overcharge: It will damage a wide cone in front of itself, and will cause Paralysis to you if you are in it, and can periodically disable you. You can only move out of the damage range to avoid further damage.
- Targeted Support: You will see a circular damage range running towards you, so you only need to move out of the telegraph to avoid damage.
You will see that Magitek Vanguard F-1 here deals mostly area damage, so please spend some FFXIV Gil before challenging it to make your build more flexible so that you can quickly avoid most damage.
Livia Sas Junius
The final boss you’ll face in Castrum Meridianum is Livia Sas Junius, and it has more attacks than the first two, so be prepared. Here are all the attacks it can throw at you.
- Artificial Plasma: First, it will deal unavoidable damage to all members of your party. Healers should use area heals to recover quickly.
- Roundhouse: Livia will deal damage to a large area around her, and Discharge will work in tandem.
- Discharge: Multiple circular areas of damage will appear around the arena. So when these attacks are in effect, you need to move quickly to a safe area to avoid all the damage areas.
- Aglaea Climb: Livia will also deal high damage to the tanks in your team with this move. The tank’s own defensive skill cooldown reduction may not be very effective at this time, so healers may need to help.
- Infinite Reach: The boss will dash through the center of the arena several times in a row, damaging your party in a straight line. At the same time, there will be a continuous barrage of Discharge AOEs. You may need to watch the order in which they appear to avoid them.
- Angry Salamander: After the last move, Livia will stand in the center of the arena and shoot several straight lines outward to deal area damage. You can only continue to move to a safe area to avoid the damage.
- Thermobaric Strike: Livia will create two Proximity AOEs on opposite sides of the arena. Again, the closer you are to them, the more damage you will take. You also need to pay attention to the appearance of Stunning Sweep at this time.
- Stunning Sweep: The boss will cause damage to the surrounding area, and you will also suffer Paralysis effect if you are in this area. At the same time, several Discharge AOEs will explode. To avoid all three attacks, you first need to stand near one of the two Proximity AOEs until Stunning Sweep and Discharge stop. Then quickly move to the other two unmarked corners.
Note that when Livia uses Thermobaric Strike for the second time, you will also see that this will be combined with Angry Salamander and create four Discharge AOEs. You may need to move to the center of the arena quickly and strengthen your defenses so that you can withstand the damage caused by Thermobaric Strike. After you defeat it, you can enter the final The Ultimate Weapon quest.
These are the three bosses you will encounter when exploring Castrum Meridianum in FFXIV, as well as their attack moves and countermeasures. I hope this guide can make your exploration of this dungeon smoother and easier, and get more high-value loot from it to face the final challenge. I wish you a happy game!

FFXIV Nidhogg: How To Fight The Final Boss In Final Steps Of Faith Trial?
In Final Fantasy 14, each level you reach will lead you to a trial, where you’ll learn more about the game’s story and find more loot for later exploration. When you reach level 60, you’ll face a trial called Final Steps of Faith, which marks the climax of the Post-Heavensward Main Scenario Quests and the end of Dragonsong War. In this trial, you’ll need to win the favor of Hraesvelgr in Sohr Khai, and then fight a final boss, Nidhogg. It uses the body of an Azure Dragoon as its carrier, and you’ll meet it in Steps of Faith.
Since your encounter with Nidhogg is a rare 4-phase battle, this guide will show you what combat mechanics and moves Nidhogg will use in each phases so that you can react in time and successfully defeat it.
How To Meet Nidhogg?
As mentioned earlier, Nidhogg will appear in Final Steps of Faith, a trial that you unlock by completing An End to the Song quest in the post-Heavensward MSQ. In addition, your item level must be 205 or above to participate in this trial.
How To Defeat Nidhogg?
When you reach Steps of Faith in Final Steps of Faith trial, you will encounter Nidhogg. However, it should be noted that there is an effective range between you and its arena, so try not to step into it before you are fully prepared.
In addition, before challenging Nidhogg, interact with the nearest checkpoint near the arena. On the one hand, you can spend some FFXIV Gil here to improve the defense and damage capabilities of the build; on the other hand, once you die in the battle, you will not be reborn at a checkpoint far away.
After you have made all the preparations, let’s take a look at what mechanisms Nidhogg will use in each of the four phases of the battle and how you should deal with them.
Phase 1
First of all, in the first phase, Nidhogg will mainly attack you with AOE, and there are different types. For example, Deafening Bellow will cause inevitable range damage to all players in the entire arena. At this time, you can only rely on range healing to restore your health to a healthy level.
When lines appear below you or your allies in the battle, they will quickly open into circular eyes and cause circular range damage to you, so Nidhogg has launched Horrid Roar at you. At this time, you can predict the range of damage by those lines and avoid it on time.
Besides this deforming line, Nidhogg will also cast Hot Wing, which will use two large lines fired from both sides of the boss to cause linear range damage. What you should do is stay in the safe area in the center to avoid these damages, and find ways to cast more damaging skills.
As for The Scarlet Whisper cast by Nidhogg, it will cause untelegraphed damage to a cone-shaped area in front of the boss, which is fatal to most Jobs, so during this trick, the tank as the vanguard should keep other team members away from Nidhogg.
After you reduce its health to a certain value, Nidhogg cannot aim and fly away, and cause Horrid Roar AOE damage to multiple players in the air. Generally, it will hit the center of the arena to prepare a straight line range and deal continuous damage. Here, you can only dodge Horrid Roar again and again, and then move to the other side to avoid Cauterize.
After a while, Nidhogg will land with Touchdown and cause damage in the area, and then the entire battle will return to normal. Until its health is 70% remaining, Nidhogg cannot aim again and summon three enemies, which means that your battle has entered the second phase.
Phase 2
This is an additional phase where you will fight Shadow Brobinyak, Shadow Dragon, and Shadow Falak summoned by Nidhogg. The strategy here is to deal with Shadow Dragon first, as it cannot be controlled by tanks.
So the two tanks in the team can deal with one of the other two monsters, so that the three of them can be separated from targeted attacks. Shadow Dragon will launch a sweep attack to cause Damage Down, so you should try to ensure flexibility in your build when fighting it.
Both Shadow Brobinyak and Shadow Falak have breath attacks that can cause unpredictable area damage in front, so try not to stand in front of them to avoid being attacked.
Once all three monsters are defeated, Nidhogg will use Final Chorus to deal inevitable damage to all players and enter the third phase of the battle.
Phase 3
Here, Nidhogg will transform into Estinien Varlineau and use a new set of attacks. First up is Ala Morn, which deals with heavy damage to the main tank player. If you’re playing this type of character, you can use defensive cooldowns to reduce the damage of this attack on you.
And of course, there’s Geirskogul, Nidhogg’s (Estinien) favorite area-of-effect attack, which deals damage in a straight line. This attack is very predictable and easy to avoid, just move out of the range indicator.
During this phase, the boss will have AOE Markers, and will use High Jump to target several players, creating a puddle because deals with continuous damage. Because of this move, you and your allies should spread out as much as possible to avoid stacking damage.
In addition to the long-range area-of-effect damage from the previous phase, Nidhogg will also use Super Jump to deal close-range area-of-effect damage in the third phase - the closer you are to this area, the more damage you will take. So the best solution is to run to the other side of the arena as soon as possible to avoid damage.
During Super Jump, Nidhogg will also use the straight-line AOE damage caused by Geirskogul to target multiple players. So in addition to moving to avoid close-range area damage, you also need to stay away from these linear area damage.
Generally, Nidhogg will repeat these attacks until its health is only 30%. At this time, it will jump away and slam the arena with Bloodrage, which will also cause inevitable damage to the entire team. Then it will enter the fourth and final phase.
Phase 4
At the start of this phase, Nidhogg will cast Horrid Roar and Cauterize simultaneously. You’ll need to avoid the circular damage area and get out of Cauterize’s area of effect, then prepare for the final battle.
Here, Nidhogg will repeat all the attacks from Phase 1, and add a few new ones. For example, Akh Morn will target a player with a stacking marker and deal damage to the area over time. During this move, healers and other Jobs in the team should gather around the affected player to keep him safe.
There’s also Flame Blast, which is another skill that deals with linear damage. Nidhogg will create several flaming balls that will explode in a cross-shaped line after a few seconds. So obviously, you should stand diagonally opposite each ball to avoid these.
After Nidhogg casts Hot Wing, it will immediately follow up with a Hot Tail, dealing damage to a linear area in the center of the arena, which you’ll find is the safe area for Hot Wing. So you may need to move to either side between these two attacks to avoid the subsequent damage.
That’s all you need to know about challenging Nidhogg in FFXIV. Hopefully, with the help of this guide, you can easily complete this final boss encounter in one go, and learn more about the story behind the main quest. Have fun!
