Source: IGGMThere are a lot of Catacombs to explore in the recently released Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree. Most of these Catacombs are hidden deep to fully explore without an accurate guide. The loot in these Catacombs is also very tempting. Maybe the gear you want to build is inside.
But Darklight Catacombs differ from other dungeons. It is hidden in Abyssal Woods area of the DLC’s map. If you don’t enter it in person, you may miss it.
Reaching the entrance of Catacombs is a very tricky task, but don’t worry, you can fully explore Darklight Catacombs and make your exploration easier by following the steps and suggestions in this guide.
How To Get There?
After you defeat Twin Moon Knight Rellana, you can enter Scadu Atlas region. But to enter Darklight Catacombs, you still need to go to Main Entrance of Shadow Keep, then find and defeat Golden Hippopotamus.
After you win the battle and pick up the loot and Elden Ring Runes, continue to the door on the left until you encounter two Black Knights. At this time, you can ignore them and go through a door on the left side of the room. You will reach a large open space with a wooden frame like a ship.
At this time, you need to be careful of Vulgar Militiamen behind the wooden frame. After the battle, continue to the other end and you will see a ladder that you can walk down. After going down the stairs, turn left and there is another ladder. Continue walking down and you will reach a room with paintings and an illusory wall. After passing through it, you will reach Castle Watering Hole Site of Grace.
There is a Furnace Golem right in front of here. Remember to follow it to the southeast and you will eventually reach the entrance to Darklight Catacombs. Before entering, I need to remind you that you must bring a Lantern or a Torch with you so that you will have a much better view inside.
How To Explore There?
First Layer
After you enter Darklight Catacombs, you will need to take the elevator down. First, you will encounter a ledge where you can rest before continuing on. There will be an imp waiting for you at the end of the path. You can easily kill it and then go right, go to the end of the corridor and turn left and go downstairs. You will come to a room with two imps.
One of them patrols the stairs in the room, and the other is to your right. It doesn’t take much effort to confront them, but you still have to watch out for Big Mouth Imp on your right. After completing this minor task, you must return to the tunnel directly below the ledge and pull the lever so that the entire floor you are on is illuminated.
After you turn on the lights, you still have to return to the room, but you don’t have to enter. You will see a fence on the left, jump over it and you will land on the ledge, then follow this ledge until you find a broken place that you can pass through. You need to be careful to fall through this hole into the room, otherwise you will be in danger of falling.
In this room, you’ll find a Viridian Amber Medallion +3, an amulet that increases your total stamina. Pick it up and start walking back. A Putrescence Sorcerer will appear behind you. After killing it, continue walking down the bridge and you’ll reach the elevator to Second Layer.
Second Layer
When you reach Second Layer, walk straight ahead without turning. You’ll encounter an imp and then drop down to the ledge below using the broken fence as you did on First Layer.
There, you’ll find an Imp quietly lying on the roof with a Putrescence Sorcerer standing next to it. After killing both of them, remember to take Death Knight Armor set from the room as your reward and continue on.
There’s a ladder just outside the room. After descending the ladder, you’ll see another Putrescence Sorcerer. Of course, you’ll want to kill it and then jump from the ledge to the stairs below. When you reach the bottom floor, you’ll see the elevator to Third Layer.
Third Layer
Once you reach Third Layer, you’ll find a huge Big Mouth Imp sitting on a high platform waiting for you. You’ll probably be startled by it, and then it’ll raise its weapon and shoot at you. You’ll need to avoid using ranged attacks, because even if you defeat it, any items and Elden Ring Runes it drops will disappear.
If you kill it before the platform reaches its lowest point, that won’t work either, because then all the items will be stuck in the middle, even if you use the lever. So you’ll just have to dodge its attacks and use your power to run to the path on your left. At the end of the path is a lever, which, when activated, will lower Big Mouth Imp’s platform to its lowest point and illuminate this level.
After the platform falls, you can attack Big Mouth Imp to get Great Ghost Glovewort item. When you retrieve it, you must ascend the ladder in this room and keep moving forward; eventually, you’ll spot the last Imp at the end of the path. After killing it, you’ll be able to enter the elevator that leads to the boss’ arena.
How To Defeat Elder Inquisitor Jori?
Elder Inquisitor Jori is a unique boss you encounter in Darklight Catacombs. He is very good at using ranged Incantations and Spirit Summons. If he takes too much damage during the fight, he will be teleported to any location in the arena.
But he also has weaknesses. He is very vulnerable to Fire and is not resistant to Sleep and other status effects, except Madness. Besides preparing your build and weapons, you can also use the layout of this arena to your advantage - there are many tombstones here that can be used to block projectiles from Jori.
However, you cannot stay in the same place forever. If you stay too long, Jori will repeatedly cast Spira Incantation, causing a lot of damage at your feet. But don’t panic. When this happens, you need to run to him immediately and backstab him while he is casting a spell, so that his casting is interrupted.
When Jori’s health drops below 60%, he will start to summon several spirits to hinder you from reaching Jori. These elves are also very difficult to defeat because their health is also quite high, so your best response is to dodge and wait for them to leave on their own.
After you defeat Jori, you will get Barbed Staff-Spear and 260,000 Elden Ring Runes. This weapon has a unique Ash of War-Jori’s Inquisition. It will allow you to shoot multiple arcs when using this weapon until you run out of FP, which will cause continuous damage!
In addition, Barbed Staff-Spear will also adjust according to your Strength, Dexterity, and Faith. Its most powerful damage is Physical and Holy Damage, and it can also cause Bleed build-up when melee attacking.
