Elden Ring: Design Of Erdtree Burial Watchdog Is Unique

Source: IGGMTo differentiate this latest Elden Ring game from older FromSoftware titles, in Elden Ring you'll find unique designs in many of the boss fights. However, here's a perfect example, and that's Erdtree Burial Watchdog. As it appears in the catacombs with increasing frequency, it eventually makes the Elden Ring boss somewhat less effective due to overuse.
For Elden Ring, the recurring Erdtree Burial Watchdogs are actually an unfortunate case. Originally FromSoftware's roster would be unique, but since Erdtree Burial Watchdogs is just a minor boss, this roster isn't unique. This minor boss tends to start to work after one or two repetitions, especially the variants that appear in the catacombs. But after such total encounters would exceed five, then it would be too far to push that.
Variations Of Ertree Burial Watchdogs
When you play the game, I'm not sure at which point you'll encounter the original version of the boss, it could be the first, second, or third. However, Erdtree Burial Watchdogs are able to keep upgrading as Elden Ring progresses, so it is a very good design example. While you don't necessarily have a specially crafted experience when encountering these bosses, there does appear to be a sequence that you expect. Firstly, your first Erdtree Burial Watchdog encounter should be Limgrave's Stormfoot Catacombs. Then, there's the version in Impaler's Catacombs of Weeping Peninsula. You can then discover new versions elsewhere, including Liurnia, Caelid, and Altus Plateau.
Each Version Of Erdtree Burial Watchdogs Is Different
It might be boring for you to fight the same boss many times, but FromSoftware keeps the fights from going too fast by making each version of the enemy slightly different. You can take a look at the example below, Erdtree Burial Watchdog found in Liunia. It draws inspiration from the magical field by exchanging spells and staffs for its greatsword. For you, you won't get the kind of powerful magic that you get in Elden Ring from this special version of the boss. But as you fight with it, it's still the unexpected twist that the previous two might have encountered, and it's intimidating.
Erdtree Burial Watchdogs Added New Variant
This time, the redesign of Erdtree Burial Watchdogs has expanded once again, adding a new variant, the spits fire in a large arc. Then, there's the dual combat, where you can fight both versions of the staff and the greatsword at the same time. Erdtree Burial Watchdogs can not only attack at close range, but also can cast long-range spells, so the work is well coordinated. You may find this approach seems to be redesigned for each new encounter. However, Elden Ring doesn't make the most of this concept. We combed through every available fight in Mountaintops of the Giants, and found that the effectiveness of the bosses dropped even more apparent than before.
Elden Ring Often Uses The Same Boss
Usually Elden Ring will also receive some criticisms. The most common of which are these two, one is that as the game progresses, the repeated occurrence of bosses will hinder the sense of discovery it brings you, and the other is that after encountering Fire Giant the balance of the game is terrible for you. And, when you travel to Mountaintops of the Giants and meet Erdtree Burial Watchdogs, both criticisms become very obvious and true. By the time you get to this area, you'll probably have already fought this boss several times in different encounters. Erdtree Burial Watchdogs then become normal enemies in Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs.
In Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs, you'll find two species of Erdtree Burial Watchdogs. They're already in their sixth and seventh versions, and they're pretty troublesome. Right now, everything on Mountaintops of the Giants has a crazy increase in health and damage. This way, the "lesser mutants" or "common enemies" are now more powerful than the bosses you encountered before. This change is pretty annoying if you already don't want to fight with Erdtree Burial Watchdogs anymore.
