Source: IGGMAfter much anticipation, players finally welcomed the official launch of Black Myth Wukong. In this brand new game based on the traditional Chinese mythological novel “Journey to the West”, you will go through many challenges and explorations as a Destined One to find a lost artifact.
In Chapter 1, the last boss you encounter and need to challenge is Black Bear Guai. After the first stage of your battle with Black Wind King, you need to chase it to Black Wind Mountain to encounter this boss in its ultimate form. In the process of fighting this boss, you need not only luck but also strategy.
This guide will explain the two stages of your battle with Black Bear Guai, what preparations you need to make. If you have explored Black Wind Cave but have not yet encountered it, you may wish to follow this guide to explore step by step.
Pre-Battle Preparation
After you defeat Black Wind King, don’t rush to the mountain to fight Black Bear Guai. You need to complete something first - a secret quest called Three Bells. You need to confirm that you have completed it on the list on the side of the screen.
If not, you can return to the area in Chapter 1 to find them according to the locations of the three bells below.
Bell 1
The first bell is just outside Forest of Wolves, outside the shrine where you fought Wandering Wight. In this place, you will meet Guangzhi. After defeating him, you can ring the bell in his arena.
Bell 2
After you fight Guangmou on Snake Trail in Bamboo Grove, go up a step and you will see the second bell at the end of the steps.
Bell 3
After you defeat Guangmou and ring the second bell, walk a short distance to meet Whiteclad Noble in Marsh of White Mist. After you defeat it, follow the main path and you will see the last bell.
Each time you ring a bell, you will unlock a secret boss encounter. When you face Yaoguai King Elder Jinchi, be sure to pick up a Black Myth Wukong Item called Fireproof Mantle and activate it. Because during your fight with Black Bear Guai, it can help you eliminate some of the fire damage it releases.
Besides Fireproof Mantle, which can help you defeat Black Bear Guai better, you also need enough Sparks to upgrade your skills or spells. If you don’t have enough time to grow Sparks, you can consider Black Myth Wukong Boosting, which can help you get Sparks faster. In this way, your skills will become more powerful.
How To Defeat Black Bear Guai?
Phase 1
Once you have everything ready, you can go to Black Wind Mountain to fight Black Bear Guai. Although it is the ultimate form of Black Wind King, their fighting styles are distinct, so you can’t copy the same strategy as Black Wind King.
What does not change is that you can still use Cloud Step, so you can keep a safe distance from it until you can attack it. In addition, you can use Composure several times during the battle to keep it in a fixed state, which makes it easier to attack it.
It is important to make sure that Black Bear Guai does not mist when you cast spells. Because your spells only work when it is in its physical form, when it is in the air or too far away, your spells cannot hit it, and your mana is wasted. So be sure to pay attention to its jump attack timing and predict where it will land.
Speaking of Black Bear Guai’s jump attack, the power of this attack is very powerful, but you don’t have to worry because it stays in the air for a long time, which means you can dodge during this long gap. In addition, it can also perform this jump attack during mist-step, so always be alert and be ready to dodge its slam. If Black Bear Guai’s last attack in a combo is a jump attack, you will have enough time to charge your heavy attack. This will stun it for a while and deal more damage to it.
In addition to the jump attack, you will see it slamming with its claws like a normal bear and stomping with its feet in the first stage of the battle. But no matter what Black Bear Guai’s attack pattern is, your only chance to attack is when it has a gap in its combo.
Phase 2
When Black Bear Guai’s health drops to about half, your battle will enter the second phase, and you will see a lot of flames on its arms. In this phase, its moves are basically the same, but fire damage is added to all damage, and it accumulates.
If you have just completed Three Bells quest and defeated Elder Jinchi, you can use Fireproof Mantle as a Bilge to avoid this extra damage. Incidentally, Fireproof Mantle effect doesn’t last forever, but it will last for a while, during which you’ll need to find more defensive strategies.
In addition, Black Bear Guai uses a move from Black Wind King, where he turns into a mist and rushes towards you. You can’t attack him with your weapon, you can only dodge, unless you use Composure on him before he transforms.
If you have enough mana at this stage, you can also cast Composure on Black Bear Guai while he’s in the mist state. This will interrupt his attacks and stun him for a moment, allowing you to either recover a bit of health or attack him a few times before fighting him again.
This requires you to master the timing of casting spells and have a relatively high mana bar. You may not defeat Black Bear Guai in one go, so practicing a few times during the battle will be a big help in your subsequent boss encounters.
After defeating Black Bear Guai, you will get some Black Myth Wukong Items, such as Yarn, Silk, and Yaoguai Core. The most important one is Craving Eyes, and you can choose one of its three buffs. No matter which one you choose, it will be helpful in the subsequent battle.
That’s it for how to beat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong. Hopefully, this guide will help you get through this fight for the first time. Have fun playing!
